Preparing the Garden

This past week we have been getting the garden ready for mulch. We don’t know what we’re doing. We just get out there with our spade and rake and go to town acting as if we’ve been gardening all of our lives. Ha!

One lesson I learned is not to get in a rush or distracted. Little blooms can be caught in friendly cross-fire. This little tulip-wanna-be perished by the blades of my rake.

tulip perished

::sniff::sniff::

A few others were goners as well…

Now for my (weekly?) quiz for ya:

What plant is this…

mystery plant #2

And this?

mystery plant #3

I know I can google it but this is more fun!

Oh! By the way, the crocus you helped identify last time are no more. They lived a very short life. Terminated early by a nasty hail storm. Such is life…

By the way, if you have time, check out who was our little helper in the garden >

Have a blessed Wednesday! :D

  1. What a great idea — Identify this Photo! We name them on my site — I like your idea much better.

Gotta run and let the chickens and guineas out!

    Be back soon!

  3. The bottom photo is definitely daylilies, and the top one may be more lilies as well, or it could be another perennial like speedwell…can’t wait to see!

  4. Daylilies! You’re right!! I forgot about those last year! Of course last year I was 7 month pregnant and in no mood to garden in the heat! ha!

It will be interesting to see what else sprouts up from the ground! :)

  5. The top one definitely looks like daylillies, and so does the bottom one - just a smaller bush. I know what you mean about being too aggressive, because I got some poor plants, too. I should just let everything grow in the spring and start taking out the real weeds when they are more evident!

  6. Daylillies? I’m guessing… I love spring, and your lovely photos.

  7. Stacey, you think the bottom ones are, too? Just seemed… different somehow. More upright versus flowy leaves like the 1st plant.

Susie, thank you for your compliments! Spring is definitely one of my fav seasons as well! :)

  8. I know for sure the bottom plant is a daylily. I’m not sure about the TOP one. But definitely the bottom one, I’ve got the SAME flowers in my front yard ;)
