Like a Vacuum…
the Macbook Pro sucks you in…
We went to the Apple store for our scheduled “Personal Shopping” appointment. A dedicated hour on a Mac, a blue-shirted employee demonstrates everything a Mac can do and answers all of our questions.
We left without buying
but I must say we were very impressed. Very. It seemed very intuitive, easy to learn, and smooth. Of course, I scrutinized the machine from web designer/photographer eyes.
Professional photographers would have a large 2nd monitor for detailed editing. Eventually I’d like a 2nd monitor as well. But for the time being, I am wanting a laptop that is as accurate in color as possible. After all, I am just a amateur hobbyist photographer. Many laptop monitors can not be calibrated but the Mac monitor can. I had 2 test photos (here and here) used in calibrating monitors & printers to observe the screen’s accuracy in colors. The matte screen was highly accurate. I was impressed. (The downer was that when I looked at my photoblog with an accurate monitor I saw that alot of my photos looked like total crap! UGH!
)
Screen captures are easy: no extra software needed like in Windows. We would though have to buy Office to use/view .doc and excel files. But that is only $149. The fact that you can easily boot to XP if needed is an added plus. It is like having 2 machines in one.
The only down side? The sticker price - even with an educator’s discount (Apple recognizes Homeschoolers as legitimate educators
) - is hefty.
But it seems everyone says it is worth it…
Will we be assimulated into the Apple fan club? It seems resistance may be futile.
Stay tuned for our answer.

Resistance may be futile.
Love that last sentence, Christine! Good luck on your decision.

We have three mac machines and have never had one problem out of any. I have yet to have an error message pop up and I have my husbands old mac mini that is three years old and used non stop. He has a mac book and a Imac, he will not even use a windows machine now since he can run windows progams on a mac. Love them, would highly reccomend. IT just seems like everything runs so smooth and easily!
