The Horse Ranch

My oldest daughter will be starting horseback riding lessons soon. We’ve been promising her lessons forever it seems, but money was always an obstacle. We visited one ranch located in the middle of a city two Fridays ago. Everyone was excited… except my dear husband who is not horse crazy like the rest of us! My youngest daughter did not want to leave once the tour of the facilities was over…

Waiting to go in the barn

Smack in the city. See the residential subdivision in the background? Am I the only one who finds it strange?

Serene

The horses were being brought in due to a snowstorm moving in that evening.

Sad

I ride horse!

No, horses go in the barn to go night-night. They are going to take a nap.

mad

No! I go ride horse!

I go ride horse

No! Horse not go night-night.

I. Go. Ride. Horse.

stomping off

Am I a bad mom because it took everything in me NOT to laugh at how cute she was exerting her wishes?

OK, so the cuteness ended when daddy had to pick her up kicking and screaming and put her in the car. Of course, you know how toddlers are… 5 minutes later with orange juice in hand, she was at peace with the world again.

  2. I rode as a child and an adolescent. It is a wonderful sport–she will grow in amazing ways if she sticks with it…

  3. My sister had a horse as a young girl and rode quite often. *I* never had a horse. How fair is that??

  4. Awww. That’s the cutest little post I’ve seen in awhile! I Go Ride Horse. I’m smiling from ear to ear.

This picture reminds me of a farm my husband almost accepted a position on. It was in the next county over from us, Harford and was in Bel Air, Maryland. The houses practically came up to the edge of the farm which was one of the only sections of land not sold to developers in that fast-growing little city. I’m glad we didn’t take the position after all.

  5. Kacey, that is entirely unfair! :overreaction:

Kate, Rachel is very expressive about her desires and like the rest of the girls in the household she has the horse bug. My poor husband is sooo glad he has a son. LOL

  6. Horseback riding is my favorite outdoor activity when I was a kid. :cowboy: My dad used to bring us in a ranch once every weekend. I really love riding in a horse with my dad during that time and I also cry when there were no available horse for us to ride in  . I even have a wooden rocking horse which I used to ride until I reached the age of 10. Horseback riding with my dad is one of my happiest childhood memories. :D
