Organize Unclutter 2008: Feedback Wanted!

Anyone still out there?

Am I alone?

I’ve noticed a huge drop off of participants.

Why?

Life? (I can understand… that’s what happens with me sometimes.)

The tasks are too much/too hard?

The tasks are too easy/too simple?

I’d love feedback.

I would love to know if it is working for you or not.

I know for me… I guess sometimes it is a struggle to keep up. Especially with the hard tasks. But the sense of accomplishments help me to push through. March was pretty rough on us here at the house. Little got accomplished. (Despite buying more file folders and a pretty new cherry wood filing cabinet.) But getting organized is about the end result: freedom from clutter, efficiency in life, and peace instead of chaos.

For me personally, it is also a Biblical thing. God values order. Not chaos. (1 Corinthians 14:33) God values good stewardship over our possessions. Not waste. (Matthew 25:21) I want learn to be a good steward. I want home that reflects God.

How about you?

  1. I guess for a queen of anti-domestic abilities such as myself, the tasks were quite overwhelming and seemed too complicated. Too many different detailed steps maybe. I dunno. I think for me its because my house is in SUCH disaray and disorganization everything takes a LOT longer. For instance I’m still in the midsts of shreading all my old papers and documents with my new shreader to make room to even put new files in place. I’d like to hear what other not-quite-spodomestically challanged people have to say though.

  2. Thanks for your honesty and opinion! :D

I can understand. Although I lean towards being an OCD anal-rententive person, I just don’t have the time to get and stay organized.

I will look at the task lists to see how they can be broken down more. What I do is take information from various books and websites, compile it, and list out tasks here. Most of the time, my tasks are actually simplified from the books/websites. I have been finding that in certain well-known clutter books, you may spend the first 1-2 weeks thinking about why you have clutter and journal your feelings with only 1-2 weeks of practical organizing tasks to complete. I spread out over a month the tasks that these books have you do in only 1-2 weeks! Can you imagine? UGH!

Do remember that even with my tasks, you can leave out those that just don’t work for you. Or adapt tasks to your situation.

I’d be interested in what others had to say, too. :)

  3. Well, I unfortunately didn’t get started until March’s home office theme. I was doing really well until the whole house (and my mom who does daycare for us) all were sick. I just could bring myself to even think of organizing when I was barely getting out of bed. Then just as my motivation began to return, DH suggested we move the home office down to the basement so we can free up the extra bedroom (and hopefully think about trying for another baby soon!!). I guess between getting behind and then realizing that it was going to move locations in just a month or two (and require a completely different organization method), I just lost interest in the “Home Office” tasks. I wish I would have gotten in on things when you did the kitchen - that I could have really gotten into!! I did really like how you had very specific items and weekly goals. Here is to hoping you may consider doing the master bedroom next (and ugghhh… the closets)!!

  4. I’m afraid for me it’s a continuation of a lifelong pattern of starting strong and then losing motivation along the way. Not something I’m proud of, but there it is. Plus the paperwork thing is such a monster for me; I just sort of turned and ran for the hills. I don’t want to give up, though.

  5. Also,

Yeah, this is big for me, too. I’m tired of the chaotic life, and I know it’s not God-honoring.
