The Moon and GIMP Fun

Did you get a chance to see the Lunar Eclipse? I almost forgot about it. Hubby remembered and went outside to check it out. He called me, and I grabbed the camera and tripod. We caught it just before it was completely covered up. Incredible.

If you missed it, you’ll have to wait until December 10, 2010.

The Pioneer Woman had a Photoshop lesson yesterday on turning your photos vintage with a hint of color. I played around in GIMP all day yesterday (and way too late at night) trying to achieve a similar look. It was a bit more complicated by the fact that in GIMP, not everything is automated.

This photo was taken back in May 2005 of me holding my 2 month old daughter with the Kodak DX3900 Zoom point-and-shoot camera.

Here’s my original image:

And now…

My Girl and Me

That was fun! I should have taken the time to fix skin imperfections but perhaps a bit later I’ll come back and do the detailed work.

I’m looking forward to The Pioneer Woman’s new photo tutorial blog in March. I just hope she stays with basic techniques so I can do them, too. If she uses alot of preset actions, I’ll be disappointed…

Love the colorized pic you did. Isn’t it fun to mess with pictures?

  4. That is a great picture of the eclipse. I tried to take one with my TREO but it was too small.

  5. Thank you everyone! I only took a handful of photos but it was so cold! About 3am, the moon was shining brilliantly! It was so bright that my camera was overwhelmed!

Keven, yea, I would say the Treo would be a bit small. :D

  7. I wonder, what exactly did you do to the moon? I have a picture of moon which was taken in daylight (about 6.30am), it looks plain and I have no idea what am I gonna do with it.
