Organize Unclutter 2008: February - Week 2 Check In!
Wow! This week has flown!
I must be honest… I haven’t completed my tasks. Because we steam cleaned last weekend, the entire week was spent putting the house back together. I had no time for organizing or purging the cabinets. BUT I did accomplish the planning part. I just got to complete the “doing” part.
Here’s my plan:

As you can see I mapped out my triangle. Problem? My big white table is a huge obstacle. I use that table for food prep but usually it becomes a dumping ground. I’d like to get a smaller portable kitchen island (or make one) but that is not feasible at this time. For now, I will move the table sideways and over towards the dining table. I did that yesterday to see what kind of space it would give (or take up) and I think I like it. We’ll see if it works out, though, over the next few days. With the table sideways, it does give me a clear triangular path!
Next step was creating my Zones:

Creating my Zones was pretty straight forward since each Zone has a logical place to begin with. Right now, I have cookware in 3 locations: by the stove, near the food storage area (as mapped out above) and in a corner cabinet by the sink. Usually looking for cookware means searching a few minutes before finding what I need. With this plan, I will move everything into appropriate spots and be able to maximize my kitchen efficiency!
I hope to purge/organize my cabinets today! That is if the kids cooperate!
Don’t forget it is all about maintaining now… do a little maintaining everyday and you won’t have to do a huge kitchen purge/organizing again!
So how are you coming along? How organized were your cabinets before starting this week? Did you find creating the triangle and zones easy or hard? :)
Tomorrow late afternoon I’ll post next week’s task(s). I promise it will be easier than this week’s!

We did it! But I noticed I’m not listed as a participant…did it anyway

Yeah trying to do it as well, but I also noticed I wasn’t a participant either…where did I go?

Angela, I noticed that, too. Did you submit your name in Mr. Linky? I’ll put you down anyway since I know you are actively participating.

I sadly did nothing this week
My kitchen is super tiny with very little storage so I can’t change any of that but I wanted to get the inside of the cupboards cleaned. I am still planning on doing this but I will have to double up with next weeks goal

I just realized the week two post said to check in on Saturday
I was sure I had until Sunday to do this stuff! Well, now I know for next week. I am in the process of finishing actually cleaning out the cupboards. I’m about halfway done and sure to finish some time today. I didn’t really find this week to be that difficult, but then again, we’ve only been here for six months so things haven’t had too long to get out of control

I’ve done parts
Instead of being a participant I’ll just be on the sidelines cheering the rest of you on, and doing little bits as I can. I will say that my kitchen isn’t as screwed up as the rest of my house. Kinda dreading the task list that involves a living/family room.

Ok, I’m 90% done with week 2. I still have to organize a few more things, but its mostly things I need to buy. SO I guess if you’ll accept it, I am done with week 2 till I can get to the store to buy a few shelves and an under the cupboard towel holder kinda thingy.
