New Year’s Resolutions: Greener Kitchen Month 1
Current Mood:
January: Replace dishes.
Tonight we were out grocery shopping, and I stopped by Target to look at some dishware solutions. Currently, all of our dishes are plastic. Cups, plates, bowls… all plastic. Not just any plastic but cheap dollar store type plastic.
We had actually sold our nice ceramic sunflower dishes back in June at our garage sale. Why? I have no idea. I was pregnant, nesting, and purging everything in sight. Maybe purging too much. I sold the entire lot of dishes. Mugs, cups, salad plates, dinner plates. All sold. And we’ve been using cheap $1 plastic plates and cups since then.
Following the plan of my New Year’s Resolution “to replace one item a month”, I choose dishes as my first item to be replaced. We had a Christmas Target gift card from my parents that helped cover the costs. I wanted simple design and simple colors at a reasonable price. So I choose Target’s American Simplicity stoneware line: 4 dinner plates in denim blue, 4 salad plates in Chocolate, and 2 cereal bowls in patchwork design. Target didn’t have any glasses in stock, so I picked up a simple 8-piece set of drinking glasses at Meijers.
I must say I feel GOOD to have made this step to getting my kitchen greener.
Next month? I’m not sure yet. Should it be food storage containers or cooking tools (i.e. colander, spatulas, etc.)?
What do you think?

I would go with cookware since it touches everything you eat you wont always have left overs to store. Cookware then storage containers

Good point! Cookware is also the most expensive. But at least we have 2 items already… that’s a start!
