Update on The Safe Sippy

A momma from my forum emailed The Safe Sippy company to inquire of their manufacturing. Here is their response:

Our cup is manufactured in Southern China and we have done everything to insure the factory, worker conditions and product is up to our standards. To do so, Bret and I visited the factory in June to see. The factory is brand new and very clean and orderly. It is owned and operated by a woman. It is even building a day care facility for the workers children to go to after school! Most importantly, it is ISO (International Standards of Operation) certified which is very difficult to attain and comes from an outside agency that audits for working conditions, safety, modern equipment and so forth. Finally, we have the independent testing lab STR test all elements of the cup from the plastic compounds, to FDA and European child safety standards to durability of the stainless steel body - just to make sure.

I don’t think we can completely avoid buying items manufactured in China, but we can support companies who act responsibly and ensure clean and safe factories as well as fair working conditions. :)

  1. This is impressive to see! I recently found an organic fabrics textile mill that insures safe and healthy working conditions at fair wage. The owner emailed me herself and talked of their regular visits to China to ensure conditions. I think maybe we can think globally with our purchases again, as long as we do so responsibly. : ) Great to see these sorts of changes happening for China’s workforce.

  2. That’s my thinking exactly. As much as I’d love to buy 100% American, I just don’t think that is even possible. I look around me here at home and it seems every normal day-to-day items I take for granted are made in China - toothpaste, cooking food items, etc. It is unavoidable. but I do think we can send a message (through the our dollar) that we want fair labor and safe products.
